For a short first visit, Reykjavík plus the south coast/Golden Circle is usually more realistic than attempting the full Ring Road. A Ring Road itinerary needs enough days for long driving, weather disruption and time outside the car; winter reduces the margin further.

Choose the furthest point first, then work backwards to Reykjavík or the departure airport. That prevents an ambitious map from creating one exhausting final-day drive.

Iceland driving plans must be checked against current road and weather conditions rather than a normal map estimate. Wind, snow, closures and daylight can change what is sensible even when the road distance is modest.
