Sweden Post-Study Job-Seeker Permit: Stay and Find Work After Graduation

Sweden's graduate route is designed for people who completed qualifying higher education in Sweden and want time to seek employment or investigate starting a business. It should not be confused with the separate route for people outside Sweden who hold an advanced degree and want to come to Sweden to look for work.

Before relying on the route, check that your completed studies and current residence history fit the official page and that the application is made while you are still in the status required by the rule.

The Swedish Migration Agency publishes a monthly maintenance amount for the post-study application. Treat that as an immigration threshold, not a realistic Stockholm or Gothenburg living budget. Add actual rent, deposits, transport and job-search time before deciding how long your savings can support the search.

Keep a separate emergency reserve because the first salary may arrive after contract signing and permit processing rather than immediately after the offer.

Use Arbetsförmedlingen/Platsbanken to learn Swedish job titles and employer patterns even if the interface or many adverts are Swedish. For English-first searches, compare the vacancy language with the workplace language; an international company name is not evidence that every role operates in English.

Track the vacancies you nearly qualify for. If Swedish language is the recurring missing requirement, that is a stronger signal than generic claims that 'Sweden is English-friendly'.

The Swedish Migration Agency has a route for former students who found work and apply from within Sweden when the conditions are met. Review the signed contract, employment conditions, insurance and any profession-specific licensing before assuming the job can support the next status.

For a regulated occupation such as nursing, the professional licence is a separate gate from immigration. Solve both before treating the offer as a completed transition.
