Use Study in Sweden and the institution’s own website to compare programme language, level, duration, campus and intake. Confirm that the page is current for your intended admission year.

Read entry requirements line by line. A programme taught in English can still require specific prior subjects, grade evidence, language tests or portfolio work.

Prepare transcripts, degree certificates, identity documents, language evidence, references and programme-specific materials. Ask whether documents need official translation, verification or direct delivery from the issuing institution.

Create a deadline calendar for the programme, scholarship, residence application, housing and enrolment. These are separate deadlines.

Tuition rules in Sweden depend on nationality, programme and institution. Scholarships are competitive and may not cover living costs.

Use official fee pages and build a budget for tuition, deposit, housing, food, transport, insurance, residence fees and an emergency buffer.

EU/EEA right-of-residence rules differ from work-permit and family routes for non-EU/EEA citizens, and employer, salary and insurance conditions can matter. Students should use the study route published by Migrationsverket and avoid assuming that admission alone gives a right to live or work in the country.

Check passport validity, insurance, financial evidence, biometrics and rules for family members.

Housing pressure is strongest in and around Stockholm. Apply through the institution, student-housing providers and verified private channels early.

Work rights and realistic job access are not the same. Language, schedule and local competition can limit part-time income, so do not make the study plan depend on immediate employment.

After arrival, complete the required registration for a Swedish personal identity number (personnummer), or in some cases a coordination number, institution enrolment, banking, health coverage and local transport. Keep every official decision and receipt.

Attend orientation and ask early about academic support, career services, language courses and housing problems.
